Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Japan.
Letters clinical data were unknown. On the same day, we contacted and interviewed the patient to investigate risk factors for cholera. The patient reported abdominal pain starting on 6 June and then severe diarrhea (10 to 12 stools per day) until 13 June; on that day the patient went to his general practitioner, who gave him loperamide and suggested a coproculture. The patient never traveled to...
متن کاملShiga toxin and Shiga toxin-encoding phage do not facilitate Escherichia coli O157:H7 colonization in sheep.
Isogenic strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7, missing either stx(2) or the entire Stx2-encoding phage, were compared with the parent strain for their abilities to colonize sheep. The absence of the phage or of the Shiga toxin did not significantly impact the magnitude or duration of shedding of E. coli O157:H7.
متن کاملInactivation of Shiga toxin-producing O157:H7 and non-O157:H7 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli in brine-injected, gas-grilled steaks.
We quantified translocation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 (ECOH) and non-O157:H7 verocytotoxigenic E. coli (STEC) into beef subprimals after brine injection and subsequently monitored their viability after cooking steaks cut therefrom. Beef subprimals were inoculated on the lean side with ca. 6.0 log CFU/g of a five-strain cocktail of rifampin-resistant ECOH or kanamycin-resistant STEC, and then ...
متن کاملShiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli
Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) cause hemorrhagic colitis (HC) and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in humans. Outbreaks are linked to bovine food sources. STEC O157:H7 has been responsible for the most severe outbreaks worldwide. However, non-O157 serotypes have emerged as important enteric pathogens in several countries. The main virulence factor of STEC is the production of Shig...
